Drive 4 Josh

We know for some driving can be a bit of a chore and boring so, in the name of SUPERJOSH  we are trying to add a bit of fun and competitiveness along with doing our bit for Road Safety.

To take part you will need to raise / donate  just £50 (Includes one ticket to the Drive4Josh Awards evening)  in aid of SuperJosh to receive this Challenge absolutely FREE of Charge.

We are Challenging you to drive our secret but very testing driving route to the best of your ability to ultimately become Josh’s Inaugural Driving Champion.

Our top 3 winners will be announced at the “Drive4Josh” Awards night on  Friday 26th September at The Village Hotel from 7:30.

HOW IT WORKS

1 Lap

You will drive a lap of our secret “drive4Josh” route taking in  Motorway, country  Roads, Town centre, an absolute variety of road conditions.

 1 Go

You will get just one chance to give it your best shot and drive as smoothly as you can around the Drive4Josh route under driving test conditions. Go too fast and you will penalised, go too slow and you will also be penalised.

1 Goal

To be #SuperJosh’ Driver of the year 2015

To be fair to all participants the same vehicle has to be used so you will drive our Citroen DS3 (1.6 Diesel).

Drive around our secret route, accompanied by GDT owner and fully qualified Driving instructor Graham Evans  to ensure fair play.

The in car telematics will then monitor exactly how you drive giving you a smoothness score out of 100%. Accelerate away to hard or brake to late then penalties will be coming your way.

In addition you will also be penalised for any road safety issues, speeding, observation affecting other road users all of which will see five points per offence deducted from your score for EACH offence, with a massive 15 points being deducted for any road rage incidents that may occur.

Finally somewhere en route you will be asked to complete a reversing manouvre similar to those currently conducted on the UK driving test (Reverse around a corner, Turn in the Road or a Parallel Park)  where accuracy, control and observation will be key to avoid any penalty points.

The Twist !!!! After your drive we will give your penalty points BUT NOT your smoothness score. So as to keep an element of secrecy for our award evening on the 24th September.

A BIT OF HELP – ECO DRIVING TIPS

Easy does it: drive smoothly, accelerate gently and read the road ahead to avoid unnecessary braking

  • Decelerate smoothly: when you have to slow down or to stop, decelerate smoothly by releasing the accelerator in time, leaving the car in gear
  • Rolling: if you can keep the car moving all the time, so much the better; stopping then starting again uses more fuel than rolling
  • Change up earlier: don’t labour the engine but try changing up at an engine speed of around 2,000 rpm in a diesel car or around 2,500 rpm in a petrol car. This can make such a difference that all cars in the future are likely to be fitted with a ‘Gear Shift indicator’ light to show the most efficient gear change points.
  • Cut down on the air-con: air-conditioning increases fuel consumption at low speeds, but at higher speeds the effects are less noticeable. So if it’s a hot day open the windows around town and save the air conditioning for high speed driving. Don’t leave air-con on all the time but aim to run it at least once a week throughout the year to maintain the system in good condition.
  • Turn it off: electrical loads increase fuel consumption, so turn off your heated rear windscreen, demister blowers and headlights, when you don’t need them
  • Stick to speed limits: the faster you go the greater the fuel consumption and pollution. Driving at 70mph uses up to 9% more fuel than at 60mph and up to 15% more than at 50mph. Cruising at 80mph can use up to 25% more fuel than at 70mph.
